It was great to see so many boats on the water over the sunny Easter weekend, and so many people browsing the shops and enjoying hospitality in both Cowes and East Cowes. A real kick-start to the season.

Cowes Harbour is an integral part of the leisure, tourism and commercial activity of the Island. Over the last few years, the expectations of harbour users, and indeed all of us, have shifted as we experience changes in how and where we spend our time and money, and how organisations behave.

Now is the right time to reach out and gather opinion and insight from a wide range of boaters, businesses and local people, and we're going to do this in two ways:

Firstly, we're running an open online survey from 29 April to 1 June. The survey can be answered anonymously by anyone, and with free-text answers, you can be as detailed as you wish. Please take part by clicking the link in the newsletter.

Secondly, we're returning to an in-person event for our annual public meeting. This will take place from 7pm on Thursday 26 May at the Island Sailing Club in Cowes, and we hope that you will be able to attend.

Finally, thank you to the Cowes RNLI community safety team who came along to Shepards Marina on Good Friday for a free lifejacket clinic. Only a shocking 8 of the 26 lifejackets tested on the day were found to be serviceable. With well-stocked chandlers in Cowes and two local lifejacket manufacturers, there is really no excuse for giving your friends and family ineffective safety equipment. The RNLI have a video on their website explaining how to check and maintain lifejackets - well worth watching!
