"Following last month’s update to stakeholders on the Outer Harbour Project," writes Capt. Stuart McIntosh
, "I am very pleased to report that Cowes Harbour Commission has today (Friday, 21st December) contracted Jenkins Marine to carry out the dredging works for the construction of the new Eastern Channel. The dredging operations will start on or shortly after 2nd January 2019 and it is expected that the Eastern Channel will be completed within eight weeks. The existing Small Craft Channel will remain open for use for the majority of this project, but there will be occasions when temporary exclusion zones may be in force around the dredging operations and vessels may be required to use the main fairway. Please read Local Notice to Mariners No. 33(T) of 2018
for detailed information.
"May I remind Isle of Wight readers about our ongoing design competition for Island students aged 14 to 18 years. If your teenagers are looking for something to do over the holidays, then entries to the Cowes Harbour Landmark Design Competition are open until 11th January. We are looking for an inspirational design idea for a ‘welcome’ landmark, sculpture or installation that could potentially be installed on the Cowes Breakwater at a future date. All the competition information and entry details are on our website
"As 2018 draws to a close I would to thank our Commissioners, the Harbour Advisory Committee, and the CHC team for their support throughout the year. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2019."
